FAQs
How do I get rid of pigeons on my roof?
Pigeons are fussy creatures when it comes to choosing roosting spots. If it doesn't feel safe, they will move on. For a pigeon, this means a strong perch and good visibility.
Most roof tops only have a few ideal spots for pigeons and other birds to perch. Take these out of the equation and you've usually solved the problem of getting rid of pigeons on your roof. Using bird wiring or pigeon spikes are effective methods of deterring birds from using your roof.
How do seagull spikes prevent birds landing?
By installing them in key roosting sites, nuisance seagulls will find it uncomfortable to land. Like all birds, gulls are fussy about where they choose to perch. They prefer somewhere up high, with excellent visibility to spot food and incoming predators.
Won't the spikes look unsightly?
Seagull spikes are designed to have low visibility. In most situations, you'd have to be actively looking for them to spot them.
Do seagull spikes cause pain to birds?
No. TheĀ seagull spike tip is blunt. In fact, seagull spikes are recommended by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (R.S.P.B).
How do I keep seagulls off my roof?
Bird wiring is the lowest visibility seagull deterrent available.
How do I prevent seagulls landing on my boat?
Bird wiring is the lowest visibility seagull deterrent available.
What are bird wires?
How does bird wiring act as a seagull deterrent?
Several wires are stretched out in parallel a few inches above a ledge. This makes perching difficult. This forces seagulls to land on the wire itself. This is the clever bit ... A spring at one end flexes, making the seagull feel unsafe. This is similar to a bird landing on a tree branch that is too thin to support its weight. A seagull will always fly on to find a stronger perch. Mission accomplished!
Bird wiring has as similar effect as bird spikes but is even less visible.
How does bird wiring act as a pigeon deterrent?
The wires are placed to make perching on the ledge very difficult. Instead, pigeons are forced to land on the wire itself. This is where the spring comes into play. The weight of the bird makes the spring flex, making the bird feel unsafe - a bit like a branch that is too thin to support their weight. This effect is enough to make them fly on to find a better roosting spot. Mission accomplished!
Where can seagull or bird wires be fitted?
Seagull or bird wires can be fitted to roof-tops, boats, window ledges, air-conditioning units. In fact, just about anywhere a seagull might try to land.
Key advantages
- Highly effective seagull / bird deterrent
- The lowest visibility installation available
- Ethical - seagull wires do not hurt them.
- Long lasting - ten years or more
- Economical - especially where long lengths are needed
Is there anything I can't bring with me to the experience days?
When do the experience half days or full days take place?
We hold the falconry experience days all year round but spring, autumn and winter are the best seasons for falconry because temperatures are perfect for the birds in these months. We recommend that you book at least 4 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment, as these experiences are quite popular.
What happens if there is bad weather?

Where does the falconry experience take place?
At our Tonbridge office. We will take you out to our 'Hawk Walk' where we fly the birds.
