We're often asked ...
How do I get rid of pigeons on my roof?
Pigeons are fussy creatures when it comes to choosing roosting spots. If it doesn't feel safe, they will move on. For a pigeon, this means a strong perch and good visibility. Most roof tops only have a few ideal spots for pigeons and other birds to perch. Take these out of the equation and you've usually solved the problem.
What are bird wires?
Bird control wires are mounted on thin stainless steel brackets several inches above perching spots. At one end of the wire is a spring, designed to make the wire flex.
How does "bird wiring" act as a pigeon deterrent?
The bird wires are placed to make perching on the ledge very difficult. Instead, pigeons are forced to land on the wire itself. This is where the spring comes into play (see photo). The weight of the bird makes the spring flex, making the bird feel unsafe - a bit like a branch that is too thin to support their weight. This effect is enough to make them fly on to find a better roosting spot - an effective pigeon deterrence method. Mission accomplished!
Bird wiring has as similar effect as pigeon spikes but is even less visible.
Key advantages
- Highly effective pigeon / bird deterrent
- Very low visibility
- Humane - bird wire does not harm birds
- Long lasting - ten years or more
- Economical - especially where long lengths of bird wire are needed
